Limits and errors
The MCP server spends the same quota as the API and the website, and when it refuses, it says why in words the assistant can pass on to you.
Limits
| Free account | Paid plan | |
|---|---|---|
| Searches per day | 100 | your plan's daily searches, shared with the API and the website |
| Rows per query | 1 000 | your plan's limit |
| Rows per query with snippets | 20 | your plan's limit; spends a snippet search |
| Rate | ten calls a minute per account, shared with the API - see Quotas and rate limits | |
Ask the assistant to call account to see the exact numbers for
your account. page times rows cannot go past the
rows per query. Searches reset at midnight UTC.
Errors
A refused search is not a protocol error: the tool answers with
isError: true, a message the assistant can pass on to you, and
a code in the structured data.
| Code | Meaning |
|---|---|
empty_query | No query. |
page_too_deep | page times rows goes past the rows per query of the plan. |
too_many_requests | More than ten calls in a minute; retry_after says how many seconds to wait. |
quota_exceeded | The day's searches are used up; resets_at says when they return (midnight UTC). |
snippet_quota_exceeded | The day's snippet searches are used up; searching without snippets still works. |
When the assistant cannot connect
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| The assistant asks to sign in again, or reports 401 | No token, or one that was deleted or disconnected on your profile page. Connect again, or issue a new token. |
| OAuth fails before the PublicWWW sign-in page | The client wants to register itself first, which PublicWWW does not support - use a token with it. |
| An error page on PublicWWW instead of the Allow screen | The client's identity document could not be read, or its return address is not in it. Nothing was granted; try again later or use a token. |
